I love volunteering!!!

Ok so I just got back from touring homes in Lake City, SC that we'll be working on this year the week of June 30th to July 7th through Salkehatchie Summer Service.  We looked at about 18 houses and had to narrow it down to 10 or 11, depending on how many adults we get to sign up this year.  After taking a few years off from working on Moore Street, I'm back.

The house I selected is in pretty bad shape and there's a lot to be done. This is my hood.  I love these people!  They rock and they love to see us come into their community and help them out.  I'll admit, I know the home we'll be working on is a challenge but it's definitely something that can be done in a week with the right people and some dedicated volunteers!  I'm already planning on making at least 1 more trip to take measurements and meet with the homeowner before we begin work.  Last year I wasn't able to be quite as organized as I would have liked but this year, it's on!  More photos to come of this home but here are some photos from last year's group!

Those old guys...such goof balls!

So after meeting for Salkehatchie, I was reminded about the River Sweep that I started last year on the Edisto River....it's September 15th, 2012 this year!  More info on that to come soon!

Another Valentine's Day comes and goes...

So I think this was my 3rd Valentine's Day in a row of being single.  It used to bother me, but I've come to realize that it's just another day and if you're single, it sucks.  However, if you have a significant other to share it with, good for you.  Just don't rub it in my face.

This year I actually participated in a Valentine's Day "Swap" of sorts.  One of the writers of a local blog that I follow happened to think of this idea to pair up her readers with one another (at least the ones that were single) and give each other gifts and get to know one another.  I was paired up with Sheena, a fellow blogger out of Atlanta.  I was pretty surprised to get my package and to be honest, I had almost forgot about the whole thing since signing up in mid January.  She was very thoughtful and sent me all sorts of goodies including warheads and all sorts of sour stuff.  She even got my dog, Bailey a toy too!

It was nice to know that somebody was thoughtful enough to send me something on Valentine's Day.  Thankfully, I was able to get out on Sunday before V-Day and buy her goodies as well.  (I had been coming down with something Fri/Sat)  I emailed her to let her know her box was on the way and I hoped it would reach her by Tuesday.  In fact, she emailed me back and turns out she got it on Monday!  She lives in Atlanta so that sort of surprised me since I didn't mail it until Sunday evening.  Thank good for the automatic shipping machine at the Post Office in West Ashley!

My introduction to online dating....hilarity (and frustration) ensues

So, I'm not gonna lie.  Recently, I tried online dating to meet some "normal" women.  So far, I've had absolutely zero luck with POF.com. (formerly Plenty of Fish)  There are a lot of profiles on there but none of them ever respond making me think they're fake profiles or something.  I've really only found one person on there who I actually decided was worth talking to.  After 3 weeks of trying to actually meet her in person I've gotten really frustrated.  I'm a patient guy but 3 weeks?  She lives 20 mins away, not in California or something.

I have 2 pet peeves:  1) bad drivers and 2) people that don't return phone calls.  This girl never returned any phone calls and sometimes would text me 8-10 hrs later or just not at all.  I know she's busy but give me a break....nobody's too busy to return a text or a phone call.  She's a teacher, not working in a sweatshop. Heck, if she's actually trying to get to know me then she'd answer her phone or tell me when a good time to call would be!  The first time I talked to her on the phone we talked for over 2 hours.  2 hours!  Girls I meet at bars sometimes can't even carry a conversation for 2 minutes!  She's very intelligent and we seem to have a lot of things in common which is always important.

Things in common (everything?):

So, after 3 weeks of trying to meet her, I texted her about Carolina baseball starting in a week (1 of many things we had in common).  She responded fairly quickly (for once) so I continued to ask what she was doing this weekend.  She said she had no plans.......but when I asked if she wanted to hang out, all of a sudden she had plans to trade her car in which she had been talking about since she wrecked it.  To give you a little background, she hit a deer the first weekend I spoke with her on the phone.  So, I didn't want to rush things.  Heck, she said she had a concussion!  The following weekend I was super busy and she and I texted a few times but that's about it.  I figured this past weekend might work out so I figured I'd give it a shot.

So, being the straightforward guy that I am, I asked her if she's playing games with me.  I don't have time for these stupid games.  Even if you're getting a new car, it doesn't take you the entire weekend.  I wanted to meet the girl, not waste my time.

Oops.

She didn't like that very much.  I called her out on it!  The funny thing is, she said she wasn't playing games but never gave me a proper explanation.  She just said that I was being an ass.  Well EXCUSE ME for asking but if you're on a dating website, then what's the deal?  Was I supposed to wait another 3 weeks?  So, that's my experience with online dating.  I got sort of tired of meeting the same types of women that I meet in bars because it's always the same thing.

Like one of my very good friends tells me, on to the next one......

On a side note, I just got the new Tucker Maxx book, Hilarity Ensues.  I'm hoping it was as good as the last 2!
